Remember the Zagar and Evans 1969 #1 hit song ‘In the Year 2525’? Well, we’re not quite there yet, and there is nothing that futuristic about the music on the twenty-seventh FdM sampler which, all credit to them, is funded by the label to bring new (and some familiar) artists to the attention of their loyal subscribers.
So, instead of futuristic we get waves of nostalgia from the spacey rock instrumental by Astral Magic from their album “Those Who Came from the Stars” (reviewed on DISS) to Sun Ray’s eastern meditative vibe, to the wonderfully named Oppenheimer’s Elevators’ shoegaze psychedelia, to a charming ballad with a nice lady singer by La Nouvelle Musique, to the folky predilections of The Woolverstones with the title track from their “Grey-Eyed Dandy” album, to an interesting interpretation of Kate Bush’s ‘How to Be Invisible’ by Rob Gould. That’s just some of the fifteen tracks on the first CD. CD 2 concentrates on longer pieces and includes the Sendelica related The Lost Stoned Pandas (Yes, you heard that right) and a sneak preview from a forthcoming album by Synesthesia. What’s not to like?
