Available on download and cassette, “Radio Radiation” was recorded in a studio on Frank Zappa Strasse in Berlin. The line-up is Ivan Skvortsov on guitar and vocals, Jane Skvortsova on keys, Luca Büttner on bass and Max Storck on drums. The band describe their music as “60s garage obscurities, psych & roll drenched in reverberating drone with danceable grooves” and thematically as depicting “the fragility of the world’s balance.”
The title track gets the album off to a stunning start, a solid motoric beat, catchy guitar fills and atmospheric retro organ building to an effective climax. ‘Revolution’ reveals a disciplined and focused band, with Ivan unleashing a neat guitar break. ‘No Wings’ sounds like some long-lost 13th Floor Elevators song, drenched in acid guitar. ‘Make it Go Wrong’ features a powerful riff and another tasty guitar break. What I loved about this band is that they channel their influences so well and are such a tight unit, established by communal jam sessions, as can be heard on the 21 minute long bonus track at the conclusion of the EP, on which the band’s space rock improvisational qualities are revealed: a solid rhythm section and psychedelic guitar blending with synth with a 3 chord church organ motif as an undertow. Sacred Buzz have got off to a very promising start.
