HAWKWIND – DAYS OF THE UNDERGROUND 1977-1979 (2023)

Updated: Jul 25, 2023

Just how much Hawkwind does the world need? I have reviewed dozens of them and here is another one. It’s on Atomhenge, a subsidiary of Cherry Red and close relative of Esoteric Recordings, and it comprises 8 CDs and 2 Blu-Rays remixed by STEVEN WILSON. Luckily it’s good most stuff being given the full Monty, although somewhat distended. Singles, extended versions, live sets (depending on the audio) and forgotten (canned?) tracks are mostly fine by me, but jam sessions and rehearsal tracks are more questionable. The albums are “Quark, Strangeness and Charm”, “25 Years On” (as The Hawklords) and “PRX 5”. If anyone out there has made significant progress in listening to it and reading the 68 pages booklet, I’d love to hear from you!
