The JAZZ IN BRITAIN site on Bandcamp is well worth checking out if you’re at that way inclined with some cracking vinyl LPs and CDs at reasonable prices. Following the “Gordon Beck Jubilation! Collection (1964-84) on the Turtle label, this is a comprehensive resumé of a pianist (between 1973 and 1974) who also played electric piano, with four live sessions, two in London and ‘singles’ in Edinburgh and Liverpool along with five radio broadcasts from the BBC and Capital Radio, as well as 24 minutes of rehearsals.
Best known for his work with Tubby Hayes and Phil Woods perhaps, it is a lesser-known fact that Beck collaborated with Allan Holdsworth on three recordings. His trio recording “One, Two, Three… Go!” as Gyroscope was released on cassette on his own Jaguar label in 1974 and is also included here.
